Harris Spice, the spice supplier for Newman’s Own, supports the health, safety, and education of farming communities through the Harris Freeman Foundation. Harris Spice is committed to environmental stewardship and sustainable business practices, focusing on four main areas: eliminating waste, reducing energy usage, reducing packaging, and increasing usage of renewable energy sources.

Every year, our spice processing facilities evaluate our environmental footprint by tracking waste generation, recycling, energy usage, and solar power. Our two spice processing facilities have transitioned to solar power, providing renewable energy.

Solar Powered energy in Anaheim, CA

Our Anaheim, California spice processing facility utilizes solar power with over 35% of our power needs met using solar energy. In 2020, over 85 MT of greenhouse gas emissions were avoided due to solar energy. In addition, our facility has a number of energy saving upgrades such as motion sensor lights.

Solar Powered energy in Binh Duong, Vietnam

In our Binh Duong, Vietnam spice processing facility, we recently installed solar power in December 2020. This investment has already resulted in 331,225 kilowatt hours of solar energy, thereby avoiding 208 MT of greenhouse gas emissions. Based on an annualized estimate, solar energy would provide at least 73% of the electric (KWH) requirements for the Vietnam facility, avoiding approximately 900 MT of greenhouse gas emissions annually.
