Ingredients

  • 4 cups Newman’s Own® Sockarooni Pasta Sauce (1/4 cup for the burgers, the rest for the sauce)
  • 1 tsp Newman’s Own Sea Salt Flakes
  • ½ tsp Newman’s Own Coarse Ground Black Pepper
  • 2 pounds lean ground beef
  • 1 bunch broccoli, trimmed and cut into florets
  • 1 pound fusilli or other spiral-shaped pasta
  • 1/3 cup grated parmesan cheese

Directions

1

Preheat oven to 375°F. In a medium bowl, combine ¼ cup of the pasta sauce, salt, pepper, and meat. Mix lightly to blend well. Shape into 8 patties. In a large skillet over medium heat, sauté the meat patties in their own fat until they are the way you like them. For medium burgers, cook approximately 4 minutes on each side.

2

Steam the broccoli in a steaming basket over 1 or 2 inches of boiling water until fork-tender, 3-4 minutes. Or boil, uncovered, in a large quantity of salted boiling water until just tender but still crisp, about 4 minutes.

3

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil over high heat. Add the pasta and quickly bring the water back to a boil. Stir the pasta a few times so it does not stick or clump together. Boil according to the manufacturer’s directions but begin tasting the pasta several minutes before the suggested cooking time has elapsed. It should be tender but offer just a little resistance to your teeth. Drain the pasta in a colander and run cold water over it to stop the cooking. Heat the remaining 3 ¾ cups of pasta sauce in a medium saucepan until just bubbling.

4

Arrange the burgers, broccoli, and pasta in alternating layers in a 3-quart casserole. Spoon the sauce over all. Sprinkle with parmesan cheese. Bake until hot and bubbling, 15-20 minutes.
