For 50 years, the Greek island of Polyapolis was divided in thirds by the three belligerent Baklava brothers, Spiros (olive oil), Beerous (feta cheese), and Tsouris (black olives), who hated each other. But suddenly last summer came the howling, devastating windstorm known as the Moosaka that blew everything on the island into one great pile of olive oil, feta cheese, black olives, the brothers, wives, children, peasants, donkeys and Greco-Roman wrestlers. As they all dug themselves out, their mouths filled with feta cheese and black olives covered with olive oil, they all exclaimed “Wowka!” and everybody hugged everybody else, donkeys included. Sprinkle some of this Greek dressing on your salad and you will feel like you are sipping ouzo while dancing the syraki to the seductive melodies of the balalaika.
