1/2 lb green lentils
4-5 cups water
1-1/2 cups Newman's Own® Italian Sausage and Pepper Pasta Sauce
1/4 cup heavy whipping cream
1 tbsp olive oil
1/2 tbsp seasoned salt
1/2 tbsp brown sugar
1 tsp chili powder
1/4 tsp curry powder
1/4 tsp marjoram flakes
1/4 tsp cumin
1 dash cinnamon
½ cup shredded cheddar cheese
½ cup sour cream
Pour water and oil into a soup pot. After washing and checking lentils add them to the pot and boil for 30 minutes. Add sugar, salt, spices and herbs.
Add pasta sauce and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking. When soup has thickened to your liking, turn off the heat and stir in the cream.
Garnish with cheese and sour cream.
