1 pound green lentils
4-5 cups water
1 1/2 cups Newman's Own® Italian Sausage and Pepper Sauce
1/4 cup heavy whipping cream
1 tsp olive oil
1/2 Tbsp seasoned salt
1/2 Tbsp brown sugar
1 tsp chili powder
1/4 tsp curry powder
1/4 tsp marjoram flakes
1/4 tsp cumin
1 dash cinnamon
cheddar cheese and sour cream for garnish
Wash and check lentils. Add them to a large pot with water and oil. Boil for 30 minutes.
Add sugar, salt, spices and herbs. Add pasta sauce, and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
When soup has thickened to your liking, turn off the heat and stir in the whipping cream. Garnish with cheese and sour cream.
