NEWMAN’S OWN® LAUNCHES “GREENS FOR GOOD” SALAD RECIPE CONTEST

— Winner Directs Grand Prize of $35,000 Donation to Charity of Choice–

WESTPORT, CT June 23, 2015 –Newman’s Own, the food brand that donates all profits to charity, today celebrates the launch of “Greens for Good,” its salad recipe contest that reflects the philosophy of Paul Newman, the brand’s founder: making great tasting food for the benefit of charity. Fans submit their favorite salad recipe/dressing pairing for an opportunity to direct a $35,000 donation to their charity of choice. Now that’s some good green!

Whether your specialty is a sensational Caesar, a modern twist on a classic Cobb or your best blue-ribbon blend, show Newman’s Own how you transform your leafy greens into “Greens for Good” from June 23-August 21, 2015 by visiting www.newmansown.com/greensforgood and submitting an original salad creation using a Newman’s Own Salad Dressing along with your nominated charity.

“From the very beginning, Paul Newman wanted Newman’s Own to stand for two ideals: creating great-tasting food and donating all profits to charity. We now have over 200 great products, and more than $430 million has been donated to thousands of charities since 1982,” said David Best, President and Chief Operating Officer, Newman’s Own, Inc. “True to Paul’s legacy, ‘Greens for Good’ empowers fans of Newman’s Own to transform a single salad into a benefit for the greater good”

James Beard Award-Winning Chef and “Top Chef” Judge Hugh Acheson—a vegetable connoisseur and seasonal cooking aficionado—will help launch the program by creating an exclusive salad recipe featuring Newman’s Own Salad Dressing and will serve as a judge for the contest. “One of my primary missions as a chef is to use food as a means of connecting people with their communities—and the world,” said Acheson. “Paul Newman’s mission to ‘give it all away’ has played an important role in who I am as a chef—and a person—and I’m excited to honor his legacy while encouraging others to do the same.”

All eligible recipes in the Newman’s Own “Greens for Good” Contest will be judged by Acheson, along with a panel of experts, and will be evaluated based on nutrition, creativity and the nominated charity. The top 10 finalists will be posted online for public voting to help determine the top nine finalists and the Grand Prize winner.

On October 21, 2015, Newman’s Own will announce the $35,000 grand prize winner and charity, as well as nine runners-up, who will each direct $1,000 donations to their selected nonprofit organizations.
